Programming Yourself for Success

If you chose Step 2 – the point where we processed information with distortions, deletions and generalizations – then you’re absolutely correct!  This is where we decide the path we’re going to take.

So if you are finding that things in your life aren’t going the way you’d like them to, that’s likely where you’ll find the hangup.

How do you change it?  Run through the steps in reverse.

1.  Consciously choose the behaviour you want to exhibit and not necessarily the one that would occur based upon your present default system.  (e.g., you act more confidently)

2.  As you behave in a different way, your body will respond to the actions you’re taking and your physiology will begin to shift accordingly. (e.g., your shoulders move back and you stand up straighter)

3.  As your body moves in a new way, the feelings that go with that redefined motion will appear.  (e.g., you feel more capable and generally better about yourself)

4.  You assign meaning to your physiology and emotions.  (e.g., you must be more confident because you certainly look confident)

5.  The filters you use readjust to accommodate your current thoughts and emotions. (e.g., you are a confident person)

6.  The stimulus from the outside gets perceived by your senses, but the parts that get accentuated are different because of the new pathway you have created.

When you start making conscious changes, you start retraining your body and mind about the ways you respond to your world.  So after some time, when an event occurs around you and you move through Steps 1-6 in order, you subconsciously follow a pathway that is different that the one with which you initially began.  You have reprogrammed the way you operate.

So if you want your life to work in a specific way, start consciously behaving as if it already is that way.

And then, before you know it, you may find yourself exactly where you really want to be!
