In the beginning when people starting becoming identified as being gifted, the original scales they used to measure that were the IQ tests. If you scored above 130 on an IQ test that meant that you were gifted.  That was it.

Education is an area that presents a problem for many gifted people. Sometimes school means being academically successful yet socially ostracized; other times it means failing because we just aren’t excited about or motivated by anything that’s going on; and at yet other times it means just feeling lost, not knowing which way to go or what path to take.

Depression comes in many forms for the gifted adult.  The word ‘depression’ is used so commonly these days, the meaning people associate with it can be anything from feeling a little down or not quite yourself, to full blown clinical depression that requires medication to address.

I love the picture above because for me it so accurately represents what it often feels like to be gifted.

Being gifted means having interests and passions about many things at the same time.  For some people their interests follow one another where they absolutely adore one subject area for a week or a month, or half a year.  Then they drop that like a hot potato and are excited about something else.  For other people they have a whole cycle of things they want to explore all at the same time, jumping from one to another during a short period of time.
